The Friends of Edgewood welcomes ideas and volunteers to help with ways to improve our neighborhoood. Below is a list of the initial projects implemented by the Friends of Edgewood as well as a list of potential projects and ideasmoving forward.

Edgewood Neighborhood Cleanup 

A monthly neighborhood cleanup for Edgewood was started in December 2008.  The group meets at the Edgewood Recreation Center at 10:30 a.m. -  the first Saturday once a quarter (Feb, May, Aug, Nov) to pick up trash and debris around the recreation center and the neighborhood. After 9 years of monthly cleanups were changed to quarterly in 2017.  

Everyone is encouraged and welcome to join in the effort to keep our neighborhood green and clean!

Neighborhood Beautification

On June 5, 2010 the first flowers, herbs and strawberries were planted in front of the Edgewood Recreation Center adding beauty to the center and making it more inviting to its users. Since then, our landscaping efforts have expanded to the triangle parks within the neighborhood.

Edgewood Community Garden at the Rec Center

On June 5, 2010 a large group of neighbors using equipment, plants and supplies provided through the DC Department of Parks and Recreation planted a small garden of lettuce and tomatoes. 

Since that year the garden has been able to grow and expand every year! 

Closed in 2018 until new rec center is built.

Edgewood Recreation Center

Over the years, this has been a list of ideas/suggestions from the community. We are proud to say that the new Edgewood Recreation Center will incorporate many of these suggestions and more. Estimated Completion Date: Spring 2019
